Quote Yogi Bhajan:” without realizing who you are, happiness can not come to you”.
We recently organized another workshop with all the artistic Ubuntu Coaches we found so far in Cape Town out of the creative field. There are different types of Ubuntu coaches in the Ubuntu Academy: mentors, business coaches, life skill coaches and artistic coaches. Most of the coaches have the capacity to be all in the same time.
An artistic Ubuntu Coach is somebody who is earning his (or her) money in the creative field and made his way up through difficult and rough times. Or just to follow his dream and at one point started to do the things he really wants and loves to do most in life and is able to make a living out of it. Besides this he gives back to the community, in what form ever, he works with people to inspire them to change their mind-set. An Ubuntu Coach is a role model for the youth of the Ubuntu Academy (UA), because he is from the same background and has the ability to transform darkness into light.
For some coaches it was the first time to come to our working sessions and some are already part of the UA team for a while. It is so great to see that we already established a group of inspiring people who are feeling so much connected to the Academy. They are breathing the vision, understanding the mission and the living example that the UA, as a concept works.
The concept of the UA started with the question: if we are able to make such a big difference in the lives of street children in 3 months (the time it takes to make a theatre performance) What can we do more? What will be the next step? What happens if all the conditions are present to guide them to a sustainable life? If we find the right people who can guide and inspire them, what will be the outcome then? If the Ubuntu Coaches are able to find a way to really connect with the youth so they can connect to themselves, are we then able to transform lives?
I think this is my fascination in life in general. I am fascinated by the potential of people, about the power and strength that we have as human beings, the potential we all have from the moment we were born. I am curious about; why is it that some people seem to be so much connected to their potential and strength and other people don’t. Why is it that some people live their dreams and some limit themselves? What is the reason behind it. And in that case I’m talking about people with equal opportunities, people with slightly the same background. Although that fact is not representative for the level of creativity, potential and wealth people realize. I saw rich people that are poor in inspiration, creativity and joy and poor people that are so rich in all the same things.
What I found out so far is that living your dream has to do something with connection and awareness. Connection and awareness connected to our inner strength, drive, creativity, determination and courage. Are we able to connect to our self, to our soul, our source? Are we able to make contact to our desires, dreams and commit to it? Are we able to see our self in the first place? For that reason theatre and art in general is such a great method. Through theatre it is possible to connect people to themselves again.
The Ubuntu Coaches we found so far are people who came from far, who live and lived in poor and violent townships themselves, who know all about the problems that our youth is facing this very moment. I feel blessed to get to know them, to be able to work with them, to connect with their creativity and tremendous willpower and trust in the youth because they are the future of their South Africa.
They inspire me because they are the personification of the Ubuntu Academy. Their authenticity, their faith, their courage and their trust in life goes beyond measure. It touches me because it connects me with my inner nature as a human being. It reminds me that how tough life can be, how traumatic your experiences may have been, eventually light will always overcome. We, people have an unlimited potential of consciousness, compassion and creativity. And if we find our way to our inside, if we feel who we truly are, we can be powerful beyond borders.
I believe true power is the power to connect and feel that we are part of something bigger. True power comes from knowing that we are all one, that we are connected as human beings on this planet. That we feel safe with that thought and make others feel they are safe on this planet. True power doesn’t want to benefit from another, doesn’t want to harm anybody else. Because we understand that if I harm somebody I harm myself. True power makes us want to care for another, it want us to make someone else ten times greater then yourself.
The Ubuntu Academy is place where we work on the light and potential of people, it is a place where we work on the radiance we potentially have as human beings. The UA is not about learning knowledge, it is not about learning things you don’t know. The UA is about connecting to your inner wisdom, to your inner compass, your unique talent. About unleashing the creative forces within and realize that the world is waiting for you and your ideas. The world is waiting for you to shine and be as radiant as a star!
Andile one of the coaches said “the most important thing of the UA for me is healing the youth. We have to start the UA with a big healing process. If we don’t start with healing, we will not succeed.” Everybody agree’s on this, nobody is skeptical, everybody understands. It makes me smile from here to Amsterdam and back. He said: “If we want to make champions out of our youth, if we want them to inspire others, we have to start with the inside. They have to feel who they are, they have to feel that they are somebody. That they are more then the events happened in their lives. From there we can start building”.
Marianne Williamson has also something to say about this topic. Quote: “our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us most”. “We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
I feel I have a mission in unleashing my own potential and by doing that inspire others to do the same. Since I started with Kundalini yoga in 2008 I made contact with my own inner strength, it was a total different power then i was familiar with. It felt like coming home, since i made contact with that part in me i know i am safe & free. In my dream all the people in the world will find a way to connect to their inner strength, their inner fire, their inner truth and nature.
Quote Yogi Bhajan: “When you understand who and what you are, your radiance projects into the universal radiance and everything around you becomes creative and full of opportunity”.
